American Gold Eagle

The obverse depicts the symbol of freedom - a woman with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. In the background is the Washington Capitol building and the rays of the sun. There are also 50 stars along the edge, as a symbol of 50 states, and the inscription “LIBERTY”.

The reverse depicts an eagle sitting in a nest with chicks and an eagle flying up to the nest.

History

Coins began to be issued on the basis of the 1985 Coin Act. The "American Eagle" was first released by the US Mint in 1986. Now there are four face values of this coin: 5, 10, 25, 50 USD.
The coins are made of 22K gold (91,67%) with addition of silver (3%) and copper (5.33%). Due to the copper content, the coin is more protected from scratches, damage and has a reddish tint.
